A very special resort in French Alps – Megeve
by
A best friend’s birthday arrived and we agreed on a spring Alpine getaway. Our chosen destination, Megeve. A traditional Haute Savoie village in the mighty Mont Blanc where the French hip and cool come to play. With the village at 1,000ft and the highest skiing point at 2,350ft, it’s not the highest and the snow can be a little dicey; but if you want perfectly groomed pistes and a great choice of beginner/intermediate runs you will be satisfied. This is a place for food lovers and the little village sparkles with cozy interior-design shops, endless patisseries and horse-drawn carriages. Our fairytale castle – Les Fermes des Marie (on our hot list to visit forever). Perfect cozy, perfect mountain style, perfect destination. A five star absolute joy! Understated too. Nearby is the trendy Lodge Park Hotel; superb for beef in the restaurant and posing in shades with a bloody mary. Mountain-side is the hotel’s lunch spot, L’Alpette. A shiny gondola whisks you high above the clouds to this special place……… it’s a spot you could stay all day…. and miss the magical trip back down, so beware!
Bright white days and cool nights with a blanket for chilly knees at dinner and an endless breakfast buffet in morning. My friend put out her little flag (she is Danish) on our dining table on her birthday. We had finally conquered this special place…. finally!
If you want the perfect spot to ski with either family or friends, it doesn’t get an awful lot better than this. Their mountain restaurant; L’alpette was a dream and the spring skiing looked so inviting: empty runs, perfectly groomed snow and POWDER. I have to admit I didn’t ski (too busy eating and shopping and just chilling with my friend). How lucky we felt. An excuse to return soon? My big Birthday perhaps and just a little more shopping!!!
